Young musician Ahmed Zaki has recalled the unexpected response to ‘Mayabi’, the debut song of his band Blue Touch Bangladesh, while sharing details of the group’s upcoming second album.
Zaki founded Blue Touch Bangladesh in November 2021, and the band released its first song, ‘Mayabi’, in April the following year. The track quickly attracted attention among listeners, giving the newly established band a notable start to its musical journey.
For Zaki, however, the scale of the response was not something he had anticipated. He said artists naturally approach their work with certain expectations, and the same was true when Blue Touch Bangladesh prepared to release ‘Mayabi’. Yet the affection shown by listeners was very different from what he had imagined.
According to the musician, the gap between his expectations and the song’s eventual reception was considerable. He had hoped people would appreciate the work, but the extent of the response went well beyond what he had expected.
Despite the song’s popularity, Zaki has not become equally familiar to every listener as an individual artist. He said this does not leave him disappointed. Rather, he is pleased that something he created has connected with people.
Zaki explained that he has never particularly tried to present himself in a way that would place him at the centre of public attention. For him, seeing audiences embrace his creation is more meaningful than personal recognition. He described that feeling as one of the most beautiful experiences an artist can have.
One of the more intriguing aspects of ‘Mayabi’ is the identity behind its central character. Asked who the ‘Mayabi’ was, Zaki clarified that the song was not written about a specific person.
Instead, the character emerged from his imagination. He described imagination as a distinctive human ability that allows people to place themselves mentally in different situations and roles. Someone may imagine being James Bond, for example, or try to understand the feelings associated with an entirely different life.
That freedom of imagination was also central to the creation of ‘Mayabi’. Zaki said he wrote the song while thinking about a fictional character rather than drawing directly from a particular individual.
The musician is now focusing much of his attention on Blue Touch Bangladesh’s second album. Work on the project has already progressed considerably, and Zaki expects it could take around another month to complete the remaining work.
The album has been titled ‘Omimangshito’, or ‘Unresolved’, and will contain six songs. Zaki did not provide a specific release date, but his comments indicate that the project is moving towards completion.
The upcoming album will follow the band’s debut release and represents its next substantial collection of songs. Details about the individual tracks have not been disclosed, leaving listeners to wait for further announcements from the band.
Asked about his broader plans for his musical career, Zaki offered a straightforward answer. He wants to continue making and performing music and hopes to communicate his thoughts and ideas to people through his songs.
His ambition, therefore, is centred on continuing his creative work rather than focusing solely on the recognition attached to a particular release. The response to ‘Mayabi’ has given him an important experience of connecting with listeners, while his next project will offer another opportunity to develop that musical journey.
Music is not the only area of change in Zaki’s life this year. He has also entered a new personal chapter after getting married.
Reflecting on married life, he described it as an experience filled with new emotions. He said finding the right person in life is a blessing and that he is enjoying the experience. He described the new phase as peaceful and gentle, adding that, overall, things are going well.
For now, Zaki’s attention remains divided between his music and the new chapter of his personal life. With ‘Omimangshito’ expected to feature six songs and work already well underway, Blue Touch Bangladesh is preparing to follow its much-discussed debut with a new collection of music.
