Bangladesh has reported six more deaths from dengue fever alongside a sharp surge in daily hospitalisations, marking the highest single-day admission rate recorded this year. According to the latest figures released on Sunday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 2,158 patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country within a 24-hour window.

The nationwide breakdown highlights a widespread distribution of cases. Chittagong Division recorded 345 new admissions, closely followed by Dhaka Division (excluding city corporations) with 356 cases and Khulna Division with 329 cases. Within the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation reported 311 patients, whilst Dhaka South City Corporation registered 197. Furthermore, Barisal Division logged 227 admissions, Mymensingh Division reported 132, Rangpur Division recorded 73, and Sylhet Division documented 12 cases.

With these latest admissions, the cumulative number of hospitalised dengue cases this year has reached 73,696. The national death toll for the current year now stands at 225. On a positive note, recovery rates remain steady, with 1,755 patients discharged over the last 24 hours, bringing total hospital recoveries this year to 68,006.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection transmitted primarily by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, continues to pose a formidable annual public health challenge in Bangladesh. The disease typically surges during the monsoon season when standing water provides ideal breeding conditions for vectors. Medical authorities have repeatedly stressed early diagnosis, public awareness, vector control measures, and swift clinical treatment to prevent severe complications such as dengue haemorrhagic fever.
