Abdur Razzaq Riyad, a suspended leader of the Bangladesh Democratic Student Federation, has confessed his guilt in court over charges of extortion in a case filed at Gulshan Police Station.
On Sunday (3 August), Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah of Dhaka recorded Riyad’s statement.

Background of the Case:
- On 26 July at 00:30, complainant Siddique Abu Jafar filed an extortion case at Gulshan Police Station against six accused persons.
- Accused include: Abdur Razzaq Riyad, Kazi Gourab Apu, Sakadawn Siam, Sadman Sadab, Md. Ibrahim Hossain, and the juvenile Md. Aminul Islam.
- On 27 July, a seven-day remand was granted for the accused.
- The juvenile accused, Md. Aminul Islam, was sent to the Gazipur Juvenile Development Centre.
Case Details as per FIR:
- On 17 July at around 10:00 am, accused Riyad and Kazi Gourab Apu visited the residence of former reserved seat MP Shammi Ahmed at 83 Gulshan Road.
- They allegedly demanded 5 million taka and gold ornaments, using threats and intimidation.
- When the complainant expressed inability to pay, they allegedly branded him a supporter of the Awami League and threatened to have him arrested by the police.
- Under pressure, Siddique Abu Jafar paid 1 million taka in cash—500,000 from himself and 500,000 from his brother
