CID Ordered to Reinvestigate Case Against Actress Tanzin Tisha

A Dhaka court has ordered further investigation into a case filed against actress Tanzin Tisha by fashion designer Sanaya Chowdhury over allegations of fraud, breach of trust and threats. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police will now take charge of the investigation after the court accepted the complainant’s objection to an earlier report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

On Sunday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam allowed the complainant’s petition challenging the PBI’s final report and directed the CID to investigate the case further. The court has instructed the investigating agency to submit its report by 31 December.

Shubhra Sinha Rony, the lawyer representing the complainant, confirmed that the court had ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation.

Fashion designer Ayesha Anum Fayazah Sanaya Chowdhury filed the case against Tisha at a Dhaka court on 27 November 2025. The court had previously assigned the investigation to the PBI.

On 25 May 2026, the PBI submitted its final report, stating that it had found no evidence to substantiate the allegations against the actress. The agency also recommended that she be discharged from the case. Dissatisfied with the findings, Chowdhury filed a petition challenging the report. Following consideration of her objection, the court ordered a fresh investigation by the CID.

Dispute over a sari at the centre of the case

According to the complaint, Chowdhury operates a fashion house and studio on Road 127 in Gulshan, Dhaka. On 13 December 2024, Tisha allegedly took a sari valued at Tk 75,000 from the designer to wear at an event.

The complainant alleged that the sari was supposed to be returned the following day, after the event, but was not handed back.

Chowdhury claimed that she contacted Tisha through Facebook Messenger on 15 December 2024 to request the return of the garment. According to the complaint, the exchange subsequently escalated, with the actress allegedly using abusive language and threatening to kill her.

The complaint further states that Chowdhury encountered Tisha at two award ceremonies on 13 and 18 March 2025, when she again asked for the sari to be returned. She alleged that the garment had still not been handed back.

Another incident cited in the case allegedly occurred on 10 November 2025. Chowdhury claimed that Tisha contacted her through a Messenger call and threatened her over the prospect of filing a case, as well as threatening to damage her social standing. Two days later, on 12 November, the designer lodged a general diary (GD) with Gulshan Police Station.

Fresh investigation to examine the allegations

The CID’s investigation will follow the PBI’s earlier conclusion that the allegations could not be substantiated. The court’s decision to order further investigation came after the complainant challenged that finding.

The latest order does not establish the allegations against Tisha as proven. Rather, it means that the case will undergo further scrutiny and that the investigating agency must examine the matter before submitting its findings to the court.

The CID’s report, due by 31 December, is expected to clarify what evidence emerges during the further investigation. The subsequent course of the case will depend on the findings submitted to the court and the legal proceedings that follow.

For now, the dispute centres on the alleged non-return of the sari and the threats described in the complaint. The allegations remain subject to investigation, and no final determination of the actress’s liability has been established in the information available about the case.
