Agradut Debuts To Challenge Corporate Ownership In Journalism

A new multi-dimensional media organisation named “Agradut” has officially launched with a foundational commitment to objective reporting and independent journalism. The media outlet made its public debut on the morning of Saturday 6 June 2026, by opening its official website (agradut.net) to readers. The institution has explicitly pledged to remain free from government control, political party affiliations, and corporate influence while remaining steadfast in publishing verified facts without fear. Although the initial phase of its operations will remain exclusively online, the management announced plans to launch a printed newspaper edition in the near future.

Strategic Operational Outlines and Editorial Vision

To mark its official launch, the organization hosted a special virtual discussion and exchange meeting with its newly appointed network of correspondents working across the country. The digital conference, moderated by News Editor Yahya Noyon, focused on outlining Agradut’s future operational roadmap and comprehensive action plans.

During the session, the Editor and Publisher of Agradut, Abu Sayeed Khan, clarified the ethical and editorial positions of the media house through both his editorial commentary and direct statements to the staff.

Key Editorial Principles of Agradut

“Agradut is an independent news medium. It is not an appendage of the government or any political party. While it remains politically non-aligned, it is not neutral on core values. The Liberation War is our inspiration, and the mass uprisings of 1990 and 2024 are the driving forces of our journey. Agradut is fully committed to presenting objective news.”

— Abu Sayeed Khan, Editor and Publisher

Addressing the contemporary crises facing modern media, Khan highlighted that because a large number of newspapers have moved under corporate ownership, editorial interference from owners has intensified, significantly curtailing professional journalistic freedom. He noted that when the state apparatus and corporate owners merge interests, the scope for genuine independent journalism is completely eroded. To counter this structural crisis, he argued that non-partisan, independent, and neutral journalism is imperative. He stated that Agradut would fearlessly expose societal irregularities, corruption, and systemic flaws, while championing an inclusive social philosophy that advocates for the equal rights of all people regardless of religion, race, or gender.

Organizational Leadership and District Representation

During the virtual assembly, Executive Editor Hasnat Qadir characterised the launch date as an historical event for journalism. He remarked that the structural and commercial success of this news outlet would pave the way for the establishment of numerous similar independent media houses in a future Bangladesh. Qadir emphasized that along with national updates, Agradut intends to give significant coverage to news emerging from all districts, sub-districts (upazilas), and remote rural areas across the country.

The Head of News, Mehedi Hasan Shoeb, stated that the vast network of correspondents working across the country constitutes the primary operational strength of Agradut. He added that as an independent media entity, the platform would serve as a voice for the general public, and collective teamwork would yield commercial and professional success.

Field Challenges, Training, and Administrative Assurances

The virtual meeting also provided a forum for regional representatives to highlight the unique challenges faced by rural journalists. Netrokona correspondent Jahid Hasan drew the management’s attention to the persistent risks of legal harassment, physical attacks, and systemic intimidation faced by mofussil (rural) journalists when reporting on powerful individuals.

In response, Editor Abu Sayeed Khan assured the regional staff of his full support, stating that mofussil correspondents are integral members of the Agradut family. He added that an attack on any correspondent would be treated as a direct assault on the institution and himself, promising that the organisation would stand by its vulnerable staff using all available resources.

Furthermore, Munshiganj correspondent Nazmul Hasan Pintu emphasized the pressing need for foundational training programs for rural journalists. The Editor subsequently assured the attendees that Agradut would organize nationwide training workshops focusing on modern journalistic methodologies and the integration of digital technologies.

Highlighting a symbolic detail, Gopalganj correspondent Haidar Ali pointed out a numerical coincidence regarding the launch date (6 June 2026, or 6-6-2026), noting the recurring presence of the number six, which he likened to a strong beginning. In conclusion, the members of Agradut expressed their collective determination to work not only toward disseminating news but also toward contributing to the general educational and ethical advancement of society and the state.
