Ad-Din Hospital Regains Licence Subject to Three Conditions

The government has restored the operational licence of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Mogbazar, Dhaka, following its temporary suspension over the deaths of six newborn babies. The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has attached three mandatory conditions to the clearance, warning that failure to meet them will prompt renewed regulatory enforcement.

An official circular signed by Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, confirmed the decision on Monday, 27 July 2026.

The withdrawal of the suspension order follows an investigation triggered by the hospital’s formal appeal. A special inquiry committee was tasked with conducting an on-site inspection on 15 July to review operational standards and evaluate the additional details provided in the hospital’s petition. The committee submitted a satisfactory report, leading the ministry to lift the ban and permit the resumption of medical services.

The government has imposed three specific conditions on the institution. Ad-Din must strictly comply with the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories Ordinance of 1982, and it must swiftly complete the recruitment process for duty doctors and nurses. The third stipulation establishes that any failure to adhere to these requirements will result in immediate legal action under existing laws.

The suspension was originally enforced following the tragic deaths of six infants receiving treatment at the facility on 27 May. The incident sparked widespread public concern, prompting health authorities to temporarily halt the hospital’s registration while granting a 30-day window for an appeal.

During the interim period, Ad-Din Hospital filed appeals with both the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the ministry. The management also provided financial compensation to the six affected families and initiated internal structural reforms. Subsequent inspections conducted by multiple DGHS inspection teams returned positive findings, clearing the way for the hospital to regain its registration.
