Shahin was the son of Kashem Ali, a resident of Nakharkhan village in the Kuthichandrakhan area of Fulbari Sadar Union. He was a Class Seven student at a local madrasa. His death has plunged his family into grief and left his classmates, teachers and members of the local community mourning his untimely loss.
According to his classmates, Shahin was returning home from Gangarhat Bazar on a bicycle with several friends when the accident occurred. As they approached Gangarhat Mohortari Hafizia Madrasa, an ambulance reportedly attempted to overtake an auto-rickshaw and struck Shahin’s bicycle.
The impact threw the teenager onto the road, leaving him seriously injured. His friends, who were travelling alongside him, rushed to his aid and arranged for him to be taken to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex.
However, his condition deteriorated after he was admitted to the local health facility. Given the severity of his injuries, he was referred to Rangpur for advanced medical treatment.
Shahin was subsequently admitted to the private Doctors Clinic in Rangpur, where medical staff attempted to treat his injuries. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to his injuries at around midnight on Thursday.
His classmates have alleged that the ambulance left the scene shortly after the collision. The circumstances surrounding its departure have raised questions about the driver’s actions following the accident. However, no further details about the ambulance or the identity of its driver have been officially confirmed.
Shahin’s sudden death has left his family devastated. For his parents and relatives, the loss of a 14-year-old child is an overwhelming tragedy. His friends, who had been cycling home with him just moments before the accident, are also struggling to come to terms with his death.
The incident has once again drawn attention to road safety, particularly the risks faced by cyclists and other vulnerable road users. Attempts to overtake slower vehicles can create dangerous situations, especially on roads shared by ambulances, motorised three-wheelers, bicycles and other traffic. Drivers are expected to exercise caution and maintain sufficient clearance when passing other vehicles.
The incident also highlights the importance of responsible conduct following road accidents. Providing immediate assistance to injured people and ensuring that they receive emergency medical attention can be crucial in such circumstances.
Contacted about the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Police Station Mahmud Hasan Naim said no formal complaint had been lodged with the police so far.
He added that the police would take legal action following an investigation if a complaint was submitted by Shahin’s family.
The family is now left to cope with an irreparable loss, while the circumstances of the collision and the allegations concerning the ambulance’s departure remain matters requiring further investigation.
