The Bangladesh Nationalist Jubo Dal has expelled Mohammad Nawshed Alam, joint convener of the party’s Saheerkhali Union unit in Mirsharai, Chattogram, a day after he was arrested with firearms and other items. The decision removes him from all party positions and revokes his primary membership over alleged activities contrary to the organisation’s principles and disciplinary rules.
The expulsion took effect on Thursday (5 November), following a decision by Hasan Muhammad Jasim, president of the Chattogram North District unit of Jubo Dal, and its general secretary, S A Murad Chowdhury.
The development was confirmed in a press release issued by Abu Sayeed, office secretary of the Chattogram North District Jubo Dal.
According to the statement, the decision was taken in response to allegations that Nawshed had engaged in activities inconsistent with the party’s ideology and organisational discipline. The district leadership also made it clear that Jubo Dal would not accept responsibility for any misconduct committed by the expelled individual.
The statement further instructed party leaders and activists at all levels to refrain from maintaining any organisational relationship with him. The directive effectively severs his formal ties with the organisation and makes clear that he can no longer represent the party in any official capacity.
Nawshed was arrested on Wednesday (4 November) during an operation in Saheerkhali Union of Mirsharai upazila. The District Detective Branch (DB) of police carried out the arrest with assistance from Mirsharai Police Station.
During the operation, law enforcement officers reportedly recovered one locally made firearm, five rocket parachute flares and a knife from his possession.
His arrest was followed by the party’s disciplinary action within 24 hours, drawing attention to the organisation’s response to allegations involving one of its local office-bearers. The swift decision also underscores the district leadership’s stated position that individuals accused of conduct inconsistent with party discipline may face organisational consequences.
The expulsion, however, is a separate matter from the criminal investigation. Any determination of criminal responsibility will depend on the relevant legal proceedings and evidence presented before the competent authorities. The police investigation and subsequent legal process will establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession of the recovered items.
For now, Nawshed has lost his position and primary membership in the Jubo Dal following the district leadership’s decision. The organisation has also formally distanced itself from him, instructing its members not to maintain organisational links with the former union-level leader.
