Officer-in-Charge Manjurul Hasan Masud of Faridpur Police Station disclosed details of the operation during a press briefing on Monday afternoon. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movements of armed illegal groups in the Hadal Union, police personnel conducted a raid at approximately 11:30 pm on Sunday. During the sweep, officers discovered a hidden sack containing 15 rounds of live ammunition for a Chinese rifle, a cleaver, a hilt, a knife, and three large sharp machetes of varying sizes.

The remote, marshy topography of Hadal Union has long made it a vulnerable pocket for outlawed factional groups, including Sarbahara and Naxalite outfits. Taking advantage of the difficult terrain surrounded by water bodies, several rival armed gangs maintain a presence in the area. Local authorities noted that these groups routinely hold residents hostage at gunpoint to exert control over lucrative public water bodies, seize land, extortionately demand fees, and carry out robberies or burglaries.

The region has a history of violent turf wars and armed clashes aimed at establishing local supremacy. Past conflicts between rival factions in the Hadal area have led to multiple homicides, gunfights, and enforced disappearances, resulting in numerous pending murder and weapons charges at Faridpur Police Station.

Law enforcement agencies have intensified patrols and intelligence gathering across the upazila to restore stability and prevent further escalation. As part of these preventive security measures, local authorities recently cancelled a traditional boat race event in the area to prevent unlawful assemblies or potential clashes among local gangs.

Sub-Inspectors Ariful Islam and Ashraful Islam, alongside other senior members of the local police force, attended the briefing. Police officials reiterated that anti-crime drives and targeted searches will continue across the marshlands to ensure public safety and dismantle the operational networks of illegal armed groups.
