Another Suspect Arrested in RAB Officer Murder Case

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has apprehended another suspect in connection with the murder of RAB officer Abdul Motaleb, who was killed during an assault by miscreants in the Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda. The arrested individual has been identified as Ayub Ali, also known as Babul Saudagar.

According to a press release issued by RAB-7 on Monday afternoon, the suspect was detained on Sunday night from the Loyall Road area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong city. Ayub Ali is the son of the late Abdul Malek and resides in Ward No. 8 of Sitakunda Upazila.

Background of the Incident

The case stems from an incident on the afternoon of 19 January, when a group of criminals launched a violent attack on RAB personnel in Jangal Salimpur. Officer Abdul Motaleb of RAB-7 lost his life due to the severe injuries sustained during the assault. Furthermore, four other members of the elite force were severely beaten during the confrontation. Following this brutal attack, law enforcement agencies placed the entire Jangal Salimpur area under strict surveillance to maintain order and apprehend those responsible.

Progress of the Investigation and Arrests

The investigation led by the local authorities has seen continuous developments. Prior to the arrest of Ayub Ali, law enforcement personnel apprehended two other suspects, identified as Ali Akbar and Imran, two days earlier.

The Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, ARM Muzaffar Hossain, stated that the operation to capture Ayub Ali was executed based on precise intelligence. He noted that the suspect’s involvement was uncovered during the ongoing investigation into the murder case filed at the Sitakunda Police Station. Official records indicate that Ayub Ali is a habitual offender with multiple criminal cases pending against him at various police stations. Following his arrest by the elite force in the Kotwali area, he was formally transferred to the Sitakunda Police Station for further legal proceedings.
