Apurba Set to Reveal His Musical Side in New York

Popular Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba is preparing to step beyond the screen and showcase his musical talent at a solo concert in New York today, August 8. The event, titled “Apurba Live Musical Night”, will take place at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center and is being organised by Dreambox Entertainment.

The concert marks a significant moment in Apurba’s long association with music, an aspect of his artistic career that has often remained in the background of his acting work. He is scheduled to perform for nearly two hours, presenting a selection of 10 songs. The repertoire will include well-known songs associated with some of his favourite singers, alongside tracks in which he has lent his own voice to television dramas.

Although Apurba has established himself primarily as an actor, singing has been a longstanding personal interest. Over the years, he has performed informally at gatherings with friends and at intimate events. Music has also occasionally featured in the television dramas in which he has appeared, allowing audiences to hear him as a vocalist as well as a performer.

Ahead of the concert, two prominent Bangladeshi singers, Kumar Bishwajit and Fahmida Nabi, sent their best wishes to Apurba and expressed their support for his musical venture.

Kumar Bishwajit described Apurba as someone close to him and said he greatly admired the actor. He expressed hope that Apurba would win audiences through his singing just as he has done through his acting.

Bishwajit also said he would continue to support people who work to uphold Bengali music and culture, both in Bangladesh and overseas, and wished Apurba and the organisers success with the event.

Fahmida Nabi likewise praised Apurba’s abilities in both acting and singing. She said she enjoys listening to him and added that, had she been in New York, she would have attended the concert herself. She expressed happiness that Apurba was taking the initiative to perform live and wished him a successful evening.

Speaking over the telephone from the United States, Apurba said he had contacted several singers he admires before taking the stage. Their encouragement, he said, had given him additional confidence and motivation ahead of the performance.

“I spoke over the phone with many of my favourite singers and received their love and good wishes. Talking to them has helped inspire and motivate me,” Apurba said.

For the actor, the concert is not an entirely new departure but rather an opportunity to bring a long-standing passion into the spotlight. He said singing has always been one of his favourite pursuits alongside acting and that he has continued to enjoy performing for people in informal settings.

“I have always loved singing alongside acting. I have sung at gatherings with friends and at various intimate events. Several of the dramas I have acted in also feature songs in my voice,” he said.

The New York performance therefore brings together two sides of Apurba’s artistic identity. While his television and film work has made him one of Bangladesh’s familiar acting faces, his involvement with music has developed more quietly over the years.

Performing in front of a live audience also presents a different challenge from acting in television dramas, where scenes can be recorded and refined during production. A solo concert requires an artist to sustain the audience’s attention through live performance, vocal delivery and stage presence.

For Apurba, the opportunity to perform in the United States carries particular significance. The concert will allow Bangladeshi audiences living in New York to experience him in a different artistic role while giving the actor an opportunity to connect with his overseas audience through music.

The evening represents a new chapter in Apurba’s public artistic journey, bringing his lesser-known passion for singing to the forefront alongside the acting career for which he is best known.
