A devastating mouse plague has descended upon the vast agricultural regions of Australia, leaving local farmers in a state of panic and distress. “It’s like they’ve got steak and salad—both. The mice were absolutely in heaven.”

In her capacity as an agricultural advisor, Eastough is urging farmers to apply rodenticide immediately after sowing. Failure to do so results in mice digging up and eating the seeds overnight. A field sown by 8:00 pm can be entirely stripped of its crop rows by the following morning.

This ecological disaster coincides with severe global economic pressures. Over the last two to three months, fuel prices have doubled, making the additional financial burden of baiting and replanting a severe threat to agricultural viability.
