Babar Azam has firmly dismissed speculation about stepping away from any format of international cricket, reiterating his commitment to continue playing across all three formats. His remarks came after leading Peshawar Zalmi to the title in the 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), capping a dominant personal campaign.
On Sunday, Peshawar Zalmi secured the PSL crown with a five-wicket victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen, a triumph driven by disciplined team execution and strong batting leadership. The win marked a significant milestone for the franchise and further strengthened Babar’s reputation as one of Pakistan’s most influential modern-day batters.
Following the final, Babar was asked at the post-match press conference whether he was considering retiring from any format of the game to manage workload. Before the question could be fully completed, he interjected confidently, saying: “Don’t worry, I will play all three formats.”
He went on to emphasise that decisions about format participation should not be externally imposed on players. In his view, a cricketer’s primary responsibility is simply to perform and remain available for selection across formats.
Reflecting on the value of the longer format, Babar highlighted the importance of Test cricket in shaping a complete player. He explained that red-ball cricket teaches patience, concentration, and the art of constructing an innings—skills that, in his opinion, directly enhance performance in limited-overs cricket as well.
“Every player should play all formats,” he noted, underlining that the experience gained in Test matches contributes significantly to white-ball consistency and adaptability.

Despite his exceptional numbers, Babar admitted that he had not fully met his own expectations. He expressed a measured sense of dissatisfaction, stating that even when preparation and effort are at their peak, outcomes do not always align with personal standards.
The Pakistan captain also opened up about the difficult period following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, acknowledging that it was a challenging phase in his career. He credited the support of his family, friends, and coaching staff for helping him regain confidence and rediscover his rhythm at the crease.
Ahead of the PSL season, Babar focused on refining his approach, particularly adjusting technical flaws and returning to his natural batting style. His aim, he said, was simplicity—playing to his strengths and relying on familiar strokes rather than overcomplicating his game.
Concluding on a reflective note after lifting the trophy, he remarked that success does not always arrive at the expected time, but its value remains unchanged whenever it comes.
