Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening match of the three-fixture T20 International series against Australia. The home side entered the contest following a 2-1 victory in the preceding One Day International series, which was contested at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. With that positive momentum, the hosts shifted the tour to the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, aiming to secure another series win against the visitors.
The squad selection for Bangladesh was impacted by an injury to veteran wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, who sustained a physical knock during the third ODI. His inability to recover in time ruled him out of the playing eleven for this opening match. In his absence, the team management handed the wicketkeeping gloves to Parvez Hossain Emon.
The fixture also served as a milestone match for two members of the Bangladesh team. Towhid Hridoy made his international captaincy debut in what was his 13th T20 International appearance for the national side. Additionally, the bowling department was reinforced by the debut of right-arm pace bowler Abdul Gaffar Saqlain, who received his first international cap. When the initial six-over Powerplay concluded, Bangladesh had reached a total of 52 runs whilst losing two wickets to the Australian bowling attack.
The following table provides the confirmed line-ups and player roles for both teams as selected for the commencement of the T20I series:
| Bangladesh Team | Playing Role | Australia Team | Playing Role |
| Soumya Sarkar | Opening Batter | Mitchell Marsh (c) | All-rounder |
| Tanzid Hasan | Opening Batter | Josh Inglis | Wicketkeeper-Batter |
| Saif Hassan | Top-order Batter | Cooper Connolly | All-rounder |
| Parvez Hossain Emon | Wicketkeeper-Batter | Matt Renshaw | Top-order Batter |
| Towhid Hridoy (c) | Middle-order Batter | Tim David | Middle-order Batter |
| Shamim Hossain | Middle-order Batter | Nikhil Chaudhary | All-rounder |
| Mahedi Hasan | All-rounder | Joel Davies | Batter |
| Rishad Hossain | Leg-spin Bowler | Xavier Bartlett | Fast-medium Bowler |
| Mustafizur Rahman | Left-arm Fast Bowler | Nathan Ellis | Fast-medium Bowler |
| Abdul Gaffar Saqlain | Right-arm Fast Bowler | Adam Zampa | Leg-spin Bowler |
| Shoriful Islam | Left-arm Fast Bowler | Spencer Johnson | Left-arm Fast Bowler |
The transition from the spin-friendly, slower pitches of Mirpur to the traditionally batting-conducive surface at Chattogram prompted Hridoy’s decision to bat first upon winning the toss. Setting a target remains the primary objective, though the loss of two early wickets inside the fielding restrictions provided the Australian seamers, including Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson, with early breakthroughs. The match highlights a structural adjustment for the hosts, who are navigating the loss of Litton Das’s experience at the top of the order under a newly appointed captaincy framework.
