Bangladeshi Migrant Worker Crushed to Death in Saudi Factory Accident

A young Bangladeshi migrant worker has been killed in a horrific industrial accident after being drawn into heavy machinery at a date processing plant in Saudi Arabia. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 7:45 pm Bangladesh time in the Bukayriyah area of the Al-Qassim region. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Mohammad Nadim Hossain, a resident of Jadupur village under the Burichang municipality in Comilla district, and the son of Samad Miah.

Family sources confirmed the tragedy on Thursday afternoon, revealing that Nadim had migrated to Saudi Arabia just ten months ago in pursuit of a better livelihood. He secured employment at a date packaging and processing factory in Al-Qassim to support his impoverished family. As the sole breadwinner, Nadim worked grueling shifts to remit his earnings back home, with the financial survival of his parents and siblings resting entirely upon his shoulders.

According to relatives who received accounts from Nadim’s co-workers, the young man had entered the interior chamber of a large date processing machine to perform routine cleaning and maintenance. Whilst he was inside the mechanism, a few colleagues stationed outside inadvertently switched the machinery on, unaware of his presence. Trapped within the operating system, Nadim sustained catastrophic injuries and died at the scene before emergency services could intervene.

Following the fatal accident, the Saudi police arrived at the industrial facility to secure the area and initiate a formal investigation. The factory management suspended operations in the affected unit whilst forensic teams gathered evidence. The victim’s family reported that the local authorities have detained three factory workers for interrogation to determine if the activation of the machine stemmed from criminal negligence or a breach of standard workplace safety regulations.

News of the tragic demise has cast a deep pall of gloom over Jadupur village, with distraught relatives and neighbours gathering at Nadim’s ancestral home to offer condolences. His father, Samad Miah, expressed profound shock and raised suspicions regarding the circumstances of the death, suspecting foul play. He demanded a transparent enquiry by both Saudi and Bangladeshi authorities to ensure justice, whilst pleading with the government to expedite the repatriation of his son’s body.

Burichang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Tanvir Hossain stated that the local administration is actively gathering information regarding the incident through official diplomatic channels. He assured the bereaved family that the state provides financial support to repatriate the bodies of migrant workers who die abroad. The UNO added that once the formal applications are submitted by the family to the relevant ministries, the upazila administration will extend all necessary administrative assistance to ensure a swift repatriation process.
