BGB Seizes Smuggled Indian Goods Worth Millions Near Feni Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a substantial consignment of smuggled Indian goods alongside a mini truck in separate anti-smuggling operations along the Feni border. The confiscated items, comprising Indian sarees and chocolates, carry an estimated market value of nearly £43,000 (approximately 6.82 million Bangladeshi Taka).

According to a press release issued by the Feni Battalion (4 BGB) on Monday, 27 July 2026, special patrol units conducted targeted raids across sensitive border locations in the Phulgazi and Chhagalnaiya sub-districts. Acting on precise intelligence inputs regarding contraband movement, BGB personnel established strategic blockades to intercept the illicit shipment.

The seized goods include a large quantity of high-value Indian sarees and imported chocolates, alongside the mini truck utilised for transporting the smuggled merchandise. Authorities evaluated the total market value of the seized assets at precisely 6,825,950 Taka. BGB officials confirmed that legal procedures are currently underway to hand over the confiscated goods and vehicle to local customs authorities for further action.

Border security in the Phulgazi and Chhagalnaiya sectors remains a key focus due to the region’s geographical proximity to the international border, where smuggling syndicates frequently attempt to evade import duties.

Lieutenant Colonel MM Zillur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the Feni Battalion (4 BGB), reaffirmed the border force’s zero-tolerance stance against cross-border crime. He stated that BGB maintains maximum vigilance to thwart illegal crossings, secure the border, eliminate border fatalities, and prevent the smuggling of narcotics and illegal merchandise through continuous patrols and intelligence-led operations.
