The official confirmation came through a formal press statement released on Wednesday afternoon by Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, the Public Relations Officer at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.

According to the official account provided by airport authorities, the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Sanowara Begum. She was travelling aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-136, a scheduled international service operating directly from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong. Shortly after the aircraft reached its cruising altitude, Sanowara Begum reported feeling severe physical distress. Her health deteriorated rapidly in the minutes that followed, prompting immediate concern among the cabin crew and fellow passengers.

Recognising the gravity of the medical emergency, the flight captain communicated with regional air traffic control to request an unscheduled diversion to the nearest equipped facility. Muscat International Airport was designated for the emergency landing, and ground medical teams were placed on high alert prior to the aircraft’s arrival.

Upon touchdown in the Omani capital, airport emergency medical services boarded the plane to administer emergency treatment. However, following a preliminary clinical assessment, the attending medical officers confirmed that the passenger had already succumbed to her condition prior to their intervention.

Arrangements were immediately initiated to manage the situation on the ground. Representatives from the Embassy of Bangladesh in Oman responded to the incident to coordinate with local health and civil aviation authorities. The embassy is currently facilitating the required administrative procedures and diplomatic clearances to ensure the smooth repatriation of Sanowara Begum’s mortal remains to her family in Bangladesh.
