Bangladesh have announced their squad for the women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games, with a late change forced by an injury to left-arm pacer Fariha Islam Trishna.
The 23-year-old has been ruled out of both tournaments after an MRI scan confirmed a Grade 2 thigh tear. She is expected to need around four to six weeks to recover, making it impossible for her to take part in the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates and the subsequent Asian Games campaign in Japan.
Trishna has been a regular member of Bangladesh’s national side for several years and has featured prominently in the team’s pace-bowling plans. She also represented Bangladesh at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Her absence is therefore a significant setback for the side as it prepares for two major competitions in quick succession.
In her place, Bangladesh have called up 17-year-old right-arm pacer Farzana Yasmin. The teenager is yet to make her senior international debut, but she has already represented Bangladesh at youth level, including the 2025 Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.
The selection gives Farzana an opportunity to make the step up to senior international cricket on a major stage. For Bangladesh, it also provides a chance to assess a young fast bowler alongside more experienced members of the squad.
Bangladesh are scheduled to begin their Asia Cup campaign against Indonesia on 31 August. They will then face Sri Lanka on 6 September before completing their group-stage fixtures against the United Arab Emirates on 8 September. The tournament will be played in Dubai, after which the Bangladesh team will travel to Japan for the Asian Games.
The demanding schedule means the squad will have to adapt quickly between the two competitions. The loss of Trishna leaves Bangladesh without one of their established left-arm pace options, placing greater responsibility on the other bowlers in the squad.
Captain Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the 15-member squad, with Nahida Akter named vice-captain. The group combines established international players with younger prospects, including Farzana, who will be hoping to earn her first senior cap.

The inclusion of Farzana means Bangladesh will head into the two tournaments with a blend of experience and youth.
