A tense and sombre atmosphere has enveloped the Sahebpara area of Santahar municipality, under the Adamdighi upazila of Bogra district, following the recovery of the body of a six-year-old girl named Raka Muni. The incident, which came to light after the child went missing on Thursday, has sparked widespread outrage and led to the detention of several individuals by the local police.
According to local sources, Raka Muni’s father, Rayhan, works as an auto-rickshaw garage mechanic. Due to family circumstances, the child’s mother had moved away to establish a new household elsewhere, leaving Raka Muni in the care of her paternal aunt. Because of her father’s demanding work schedule, she was being raised by her aunt in a supportive environment.
The events leading to the discovery began on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 5:00 pm, Raka Muni left her residence in Sahebpara to attend a private tutoring session. When she failed to return home after the scheduled time, her family members grew deeply concerned. They initiated a search across various locations in the neighbourhood to locate the missing child.
The search culminated in a grim discovery at the residence of a neighbour. Raka Muni’s body was found concealed inside a sack on the premises. Allegations immediately surfaced indicating that the young girl had been murdered before her body was hidden in the bag.
As news of the discovery spread throughout the locality, it triggered intense anger among the residents. A large and agitated crowd gathered at the scene and subsequently vandalised the house of the accused individual.
Upon receiving information about the incident and the rising tension, the police arrived at the location to restore order. They recovered the body of the child and dispatched it to a hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. To facilitate the investigation, law enforcement officials detained several suspects from the area for questioning.
The police have stated that an active investigation is underway to uncover the actual motive behind the crime and to identify all individuals involved in the incident. Authorities noted that the precise cause of death will be officially determined once the post-mortem report is delivered.
Following the brutal death of Raka Muni, a pall of gloom has descended upon the entire community. Local residents have expressed deep grief and are firmly demanding a swift and fair trial to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice. The report was compiled based on information provided by the Bogra representative, Md. Abdus Sabur.
The incident occurred in Adamdighi Upazila, which is an administrative sub-district located within the Bogra District of the Rajshahi Division in northern Bangladesh. Bogra is one of the oldest and most prominent commercial hubs in the region. The Santahar municipality, where the crime took place, is a key urban area within the Adamdighi upazila and serves as an important railway junction connecting different parts of the country.
Incidents requiring post-mortem examinations in the Bogra district are typically referred to the forensic department of the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC), which is the primary tertiary healthcare and medical facility in the district. Local police administrations in Bangladesh operate under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with upazila-level stations handling primary criminal investigations, gathering evidence, and detaining suspects prior to filing formal charges in the judicial system.
