A further child has died with symptoms of measles in the past 24 hours, while health authorities have reported more than a thousand new suspected and confirmed infections across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
In its latest daily bulletin, the health authority stated that between 8:00am on Thursday and 8:00am on Friday, one child died after showing measles-related symptoms. The fatality was recorded in the Khulna division. During the same 24-hour period, a total of 1,153 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were identified nationwide.
Of these, 1,027 individuals were reported with symptoms consistent with measles, while 126 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles infections. The continuing rise in both suspected and confirmed cases has placed significant pressure on healthcare facilities, particularly in districts reporting repeated outbreaks.
Since 15 March, the situation has escalated sharply. Health data shows that a total of 84,266 individuals have presented with measles-like symptoms during this period. Confirmed measles cases stand at 10,185. In the same timeframe, 68,934 patients have required hospital admission, highlighting the scale of the outbreak and the burden on inpatient services.
Recovery figures indicate that 65,275 patients have been discharged following treatment. However, fatalities continue to accumulate. Since 15 March, a total of 551 children have died after developing measles-like symptoms, while a further 92 deaths have been directly attributed to confirmed measles infection. This brings the combined death toll to 643.
Public health experts continue to stress the importance of early detection, vaccination coverage, and rapid treatment to prevent further escalation. The steady rise in infections over recent months suggests ongoing community transmission, with children remaining the most vulnerable group.
