Brazil and Japan are set to renew their rivalry only a few months after their dramatic meeting at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the sides scheduled to face each other at a four-nation international tournament in Singapore in November.
The two teams will meet in the Mizuho Blue Challenge, alongside Paraguay and hosts Singapore. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 13 to 17 November during the FIFA international window, with matches being played at the Singapore National Stadium.
Japan will face Brazil on 14 November, giving the Asian side an early opportunity to respond to its World Cup defeat. Their previous encounter came in the last-32 stage of the 2026 tournament in Houston, United States, where Brazil secured a 2-1 victory to advance to the last 16.
The World Cup match appeared to be heading towards a tense finish before Gabriel Martinelli scored in added time, handing Brazil a dramatic victory. The result ended Japan’s campaign and secured another knockout-stage progression for the five-time world champions.
The rematch in Singapore will officially be a friendly, but the circumstances surrounding it are likely to add significance. Japan will have another opportunity to test itself against one of the world’s most successful international sides after narrowly losing their previous contest.
The four-team tournament will begin on 13 November, when Singapore take on Paraguay. Brazil and Japan will then meet the following day.
The final round of matches is scheduled for 17 November. Brazil will play Singapore in the first match of the day, while Japan will face Paraguay in the second.
For Brazil, the Singapore tournament forms part of a busy programme following the World Cup. Under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil are scheduled to play two friendlies against Australia in September. The first is due to take place in Queensland on 25 September, followed by another in Brisbane on 29 September.
Brazil are then expected to travel to India for a meeting with the hosts on 3 October at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. It would mark Brazil’s first match against India, adding another international fixture to the team’s post-World Cup schedule.
The November tournament will therefore give Brazil another chance to assess its squad and maintain competitive preparation against international opposition. For Japan, meanwhile, the meeting offers a quick return to a familiar opponent and another test against elite-level competition.
The teams’ World Cup encounter was decided by the finest of margins, with Brazil’s late goal settling the contest. Their meeting in Singapore could provide a very different tactical and competitive setting, but the recent history between the sides ensures that the fixture will attract considerable attention.
With Paraguay and Singapore completing the line-up, the tournament will also give all four nations valuable international fixtures during the November window. For Brazil and Japan in particular, however, the headline encounter will be their first meeting since that dramatic night in Houston.
