A 26-year-old construction worker has been found dead in Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh in an incident that police suspect may be linked to suicide.
The deceased, identified as Md Shakil, was recovered by police on Friday morning (1 May) from Hatoramchandrapur village under Ranihat Union in Sadar Upazila. He was the son of Md Zakaria, a resident of the same village.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred around 9:30 am when Shakil reportedly ingested a toxic substance, believed to be a pesticide, inside his bedroom at his family home without the knowledge of other household members. Shortly after the incident, family members discovered his condition and rushed him to Chapainawabganj District Hospital in an attempt to save his life.
However, attending doctors declared him dead at approximately 1:30 pm upon arrival or during treatment at the hospital, bringing a tragic end to the emergency efforts.
Police officials later visited the scene following reports of the incident. The body was recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ekramul Hossain stated that initial findings suggest the possibility of suicide, potentially linked to mental distress. However, he emphasised that the exact circumstances surrounding the death would only be confirmed after completion of the post-mortem report and further investigation.
A case of unnatural death has been filed at the police station in connection with the incident. Authorities are continuing their inquiry and have spoken with family members and locals as part of the investigative process.
