Teen Student Killed After Fair Altercation in Mymensingh

A 15-year-old schoolboy has died following a violent assault allegedly triggered by a trivial argument among friends during a traditional Bengali New Year fair in Mymensingh’s Muktagacha upazila.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Padurbari High School field, where a two-day-long Baishakhi fair was underway. The victim, identified as Md Siam, a ninth-grade student of Mankon High School and son of Abdus Salam of Shibpur village, was reportedly attacked after a brief dispute escalated between groups of friends.

According to police and local witnesses, Siam had visited the fair around 7:30pm with friends. What began as casual conversation soon turned into a verbal altercation between two groups of youths. Although the disagreement was initially settled among themselves, tensions resurfaced shortly afterwards. Siam was later isolated within the fairground and allegedly beaten severely by a group of individuals.

Locals rushed to his aid and first took him to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, doctors recommended advanced treatment in Dhaka. However, Siam succumbed to his injuries around 4:00am on Friday while being transported to the capital.

Police have detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the incident: 35-year-old Nazmul, son of Mannan from Ramnath Bari village, and a 13-year-old boy. Authorities say they are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and working to identify others involved.

Muktagacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam stated that the incident stemmed from a dispute between youths from different localities, which tragically escalated into violence. He confirmed that preparations are underway to file a murder case and that efforts are ongoing to arrest all suspects involved.
