Court Imposes Travel Ban on Former MP Sarwar Jahan and His Wife

Published: 20 Feb 2025, 05:32 am

A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former MP AKM Sarwar Jahan of Kushtia-1 and his wife Mahmuda Siddiqa, following a request by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order today in response to the ACC’s petition, which cited allegations of corruption and illegal asset accumulation against the couple.

According to the ACC’s application, Mahmuda Siddiqa allegedly misused her husband’s political influence for personal financial gain, amassing wealth beyond known sources of income. The ACC had previously filed a corruption case against them, which is currently under investigation.

During the hearing, the ACC informed the court that the couple is suspected of trying to flee the country after transferring their illegally acquired assets. The investigation officer emphasized the necessity of a travel ban to ensure a fair and uninterrupted probe into the case.
