Date: 26 March 2026
On the occasion of the great Independence Day, the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War, reaffirming the need for popular mobilisation against the nation’s historical adversaries.
At 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, 26 March 2026, the central executive committee of JASAD, alongside the Workers’ Union, National Youth League, and student leaders, laid floral tributes at the Shaheed Minar in Savar National Memorial. The ceremony honoured the valiant freedom fighters and countless civilians who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War.
Following the tribute, JASAD leaders addressed the media, emphasising that Bangladesh’s independence remains the pinnacle of a thousand years of Bengali achievement. They noted that the nation, now in its fifty-fifth year, demonstrates the historical legitimacy of the Bengali people’s struggle for a sovereign state.
The statement highlighted the political challenges in post-independence Bangladesh, observing that attempts to govern on the basis of democracy, socialism, secularism, and Bengali nationalism have often been undermined. JASAD expressed concern that pro-Pakistan elements, adversaries of Bangladesh’s birth, have exploited state power to erase the marks of the Liberation War, seeking to rewrite history and deny unresolved issues of the past.
In response, JASAD leaders called for a coordinated popular resistance, urging all democratic, non-communal political and social forces to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and defend the nation’s independence and historical memory.
