A devastating road accident on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway in Chakaria has claimed the lives of two close friends and left another injured after a passenger bus collided with their motorcycle in the early hours of Wednesday.
The fatal incident occurred at around 4:00am near the Villager Para area in front of Karim Bawarchi’s residence in Boraitali Union, under Chakaria upazila. According to the Chiringa Highway Police Station, the victims were travelling towards Cox’s Bazar on a motorcycle when they were struck by a speeding inter-district bus.
Police confirmed that the deceased were residents of Uttarkhan Police Station area in Dhaka’s North City Corporation. They have been identified as Shariful Islam (30), son of Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan of Atipara area, and Raiosul Islam Shishir (30), son of Oliul Islam. Both were described as close friends.
A third motorcyclist, travelling in the same convoy, sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. His identity has not yet been officially released.
Preliminary findings from law enforcement indicate that the accident involved a “Lal Sobuj Paribahan” bus (registration Dhaka Metro-B-12-2565), which was travelling from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar via Chattogram. Witness accounts and police reports suggest that the bus was being driven at a high speed and in a reckless manner when the driver lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles, including two motorcycles and an unidentified truck moving in the same lane.
The impact of the collision was severe, killing the two motorcyclists on the spot. The bus and one of the motorcycles involved have been seized by the highway police for further investigation.
Officer-in-Charge of Chiringa Highway Police Station, Md. Ariful Amin, confirmed the incident and stated that legal procedures are underway. He added that the bodies would be released to the families after completion of necessary formalities.
