Police in Keshabpur, Jashore, have recovered the partially decomposed bodies of an unidentified man and woman from the side of a paddy field, triggering fear and panic among local residents. The bodies were retrieved around 8:00 pm on Saturday from Brahmandanga village under the upazila.
Local residents alerted the authorities after noticing a pervasive, foul smell emanating from a quiet spot adjoining the field. Curious onlookers traced the stench to the field’s embankment, where they discovered the motionless remains of the couple before informing law enforcement. A team from Keshabpur Police Station arrived swiftly, cordoning off the area to secure potential evidence and prevent onlookers from disturbing the scene.
Police estimate that both victims were aged between 45 and 50 years. However, their identities could not be immediately established due to the advanced state of decomposition, which suggests that death occurred several days earlier. At the time of recovery, the male victim was found with a traditional cotton towel (gamcha) wrapped around his body, while the female victim was wearing a housecoat (maxi).
Confirming the recovery, Officer-in-Charge of Keshabpur Police Station, Md. Hafizur Rahman, stated that specialised forensic experts and crime scene units had been called to inspect the site. Official inquest reports will be prepared upon their analysis, after which the bodies will be transported to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for comprehensive post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause and time of death.
Addressing queries on whether the victims were murdered elsewhere and subsequently dumped in the isolated location, the officer indicated that investigators are exploring all possibilities, including foul play and homicide. Police have dispatched descriptions to neighbouring police stations to verify missing person entries across the district. Officers clarified that definitive conclusions regarding the nature of the crime remain pending until forensic evaluations and autopsy findings are made available.
