Dismembered Body Identified as Saudi Expatriate

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police have successfully identified the dismembered body recovered from the capital’s Mugda area. The deceased has been identified as Md Mokaram Miah, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker who had been residing in Saudi Arabia. On Monday afternoon, his cousin, Rifat, arrived at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) mortuary to officially identify and receive the remains of the deceased.

Mokaram Miah was the son of Sohrab Miah, a resident of Talshahar village under the Ashuganj Police Station in the Brahmanbaria district. Family sources revealed that Mokaram was the eldest among five siblings, comprising three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Jonaki Begum, and two sons, named Bayazid and Mojahid.

Timeline of Disappearance and Return

According to family statements, Mokaram had been working in Saudi Arabia for approximately three and a half years. The final communication from him occurred on the afternoon of 13 May, when he spoke to his wife, Jonaki Begum, via the instant messaging application imo. During the conversation, he did not disclose his specific geographic location. Immediately following this call, his mobile phone was switched off, and subsequent attempts by the family to reach him proved unsuccessful.

On 14 May, the family contacted one of Mokaram’s colleagues in Saudi Arabia to ascertain his whereabouts. The colleague disclosed that Mokaram had departed for Bangladesh on the night of 13 May. Prior to his departure, he had left some of his personal belongings in the custody of the said colleague. The family maintained that they had no further information regarding his travel itinerary or his subsequent arrival in Bangladesh.

The family remained unaware of his fate until Sunday night, when law enforcement officials contacted them to report that his body was being held at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital mortuary. The police had successfully established his identity using biometric fingerprint verification.

Recovery of the Remains

The police investigation commenced following the discovery of severely mutilated body parts hidden in different locations within the capital. The recovery operations, conducted by law enforcement officials, unfolded in two distinct phases:

Recovered Remains Location of Recovery Time of Recovery Packaging Material
7 headless body parts Manda area, Mugda, Dhaka Sunday (Daytime) Wrapped in polythene
Severed head Maniknagar area, Dhaka Sunday (Late night) Wrapped in polythene

On Sunday daytime, police officers initially recovered seven headless segments of the torso and limbs, which had been wrapped in polythene sheets and discarded in the Manda area of Mugda. Following further investigation and search operations later that night, the authorities located the missing severed head, also wrapped in polythene, in the nearby Maniknagar area.

The police have preserved the remains at the DMCH mortuary for post-mortem examinations, and official investigations into the circumstances surrounding the homicide are currently ongoing.
