Police in Comilla have launched a murder investigation after the throat-slit body of an elderly tailor was discovered in a secluded bamboo grove in Barura upazila on Saturday morning.

The victim, seventy-five-year-old Mubarak Hossain, resided in the Chawori Fakir Bari area within the Shakpur Union. According to family members, Mubarak vanished on Friday evening after stepping out of his home. His sudden disappearance sparked immediate concern among relatives when he failed to return later that night, prompting an anxious overnight search by his family.

The grim discovery occurred around Saturday morning, roughly 500 metres from the victim’s residence. Local children playing near a community clinic stumbled upon the body concealed within a nearby bamboo thicket and immediately alerted residents. As news spread rapidly across the village, concerned locals gathered at the site before informing law enforcement agencies.

Officers from the Barura Police Station promptly arrived at the scene to recover the body and secure the immediate perimeter for forensic inspection. Investigating officers retrieved a sharp knife from the location, which investigators suspect was the weapon used in the attack. The body was subsequently dispatched to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination to establish the precise time and cause of death.

While the primary motive behind the brutal murder remains unclear, preliminary findings suggest a targeted attack. Criminal acts involving elderly residents in rural areas often stem from land disputes, personal enmity, or targeted robberies, dimensions that officers are currently examining.

Officer-in-Charge of Barura Police Station, Md Nazmul Hasan, confirmed that law enforcement agencies have initiated a comprehensive probe into the incident. Describing the crime as a pre-planned homicide, he assured that police operations are actively under way to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Additional forces have been deployed in the surrounding locality to gather intelligence, interview potential witnesses, and trace the victim’s final movements.
