The victim, Devesh, also known as Bunty Dixit, died at the scene on Thursday. The accused, Pawan Parashar, 22, allegedly drove his car into Dixit’s motorcycle before attacking him with the weapons. Following the incident, Parashar drove directly to the CIDCO police station and surrendered.
The brutal killing took place on a busy road, leaving pedestrians and local shopkeepers frightened. According to preliminary police findings, the two men had once been close friends but later developed serious differences. Investigators are examining whether their personal dispute was the sole motive behind the killing or whether other factors were involved.
According to police accounts, Dixit was returning home on his motorcycle after a gym session when Parashar, a resident of the Wankhede Nagar area, began following him in a car bearing the registration number ‘838’.
A dangerous pursuit reportedly followed, ending near Mangesh Gas Agency in the N-7 area of CIDCO. Parashar allegedly drove at high speed and rammed his car into Dixit’s motorcycle from behind.
The impact was so severe that Dixit was thrown onto the road, while his motorcycle was reportedly flung approximately 150 feet away. The collision left him seriously injured and unable to defend himself.
However, the attack did not end with the collision. According to eyewitness accounts cited by Atul Yerme, an inspector at CIDCO police station, Parashar initially drove past the crash site before making a U-turn and returning to where Dixit lay injured.
He then allegedly got out of the vehicle and repeatedly struck Dixit on the head with a wooden stick and an iron rod. The injuries proved fatal, and Dixit died at the scene before medical assistance could save him.
The incident unfolded in a public area in the middle of the day, prompting alarm among people nearby. The sudden violence and the severity of the assault left pedestrians and shopkeepers deeply shaken.
After receiving information about the killing, senior police officers rushed to the scene to assess the situation and begin the investigation. Among them was Ratnakar Navle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone 2.
Police subsequently began gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the attack, including accounts from witnesses and details of the alleged pursuit. The sequence of events leading up to the collision and the subsequent assault has become a key part of the investigation.
Parashar reportedly surrendered at the CIDCO police station shortly after the killing, arriving there in the same car allegedly used in the attack. He was questioned by police about his relationship with the victim and the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
DCP Ratnakar Navle said that both men had worked as bouncers at separate bars. They had previously shared a close friendship, but their relationship had deteriorated over time, eventually turning into hostility.
During preliminary questioning, Parashar reportedly attributed the attack to the breakdown of their friendship and the dispute that followed. According to the police account, he claimed that resentment arising from their deteriorating relationship had driven him to commit the crime.
Investigators are now examining that explanation alongside other available evidence. They are seeking to establish the precise nature of the dispute, whether there had been any confrontation before the incident and whether the attack was planned in advance.
Although the accused’s account has provided investigators with an initial lead, the motive has not yet been conclusively established. Police are also considering whether any additional dispute or underlying grievance may have contributed to the violence.
The case has drawn attention to the severity of the attack, which allegedly involved both a vehicle collision and a subsequent assault with blunt weapons in a public place. The reported distance travelled by the motorcycle after the collision also indicates the force of the impact, although the full circumstances will need to be established through the investigation.
The central question for investigators is how a relationship that was once described as a close friendship deteriorated to the point of such extreme violence. Further findings from the police inquiry are expected to clarify the events that led to Dixit’s death and the motive behind the alleged killing.
