Healthcare facilities across Faridpur district recorded 34 new dengue cases and 42 suspected measles infections within a 24-hour period, highlighting a dual public health challenge facing local medical authorities.
According to an official report released by the district health department on 30 September, no fresh fatalities were recorded from either disease during the 24-hour window. However, epidemiologically tracked data covering the first nine months of the year—from 1 January to 30 September—presents a grimmer picture, with dengue claiming six lives and complications from measles resulting in 21 deaths across the district.
Hospital admissions for dengue over the past 24 hours show widespread infection across several upazilas. Faridpur Medical College Hospital received the highest number of new admissions with 16 patients, followed by Faridpur General Hospital with five. Upazila health complexes also registered new admissions: Boalmari admitted four patients, Bhanga and Madhukhali three each, Sadarpur two, and Nagarkanda one. Meanwhile, health complexes in Alphadanga, Charbhadrasan, and Saltha reported no new dengue admissions during the same timeframe.
Since the beginning of the year, government hospitals in Faridpur have identified a cumulative total of 865 dengue cases. Over the 24-hour reporting period, 120 patients were receiving in-patient care, 26 were discharged following recovery, and 744 active dengue cases remain under treatment in various public facilities across the district.
Simultaneously, the surge in suspected measles cases has placed additional pressure on local healthcare infrastructure. Out of the 42 newly identified suspected measles patients, 29 reside within Faridpur district, while 13 originated from neighboring districts. Twelve of these patients were admitted to Faridpur General Hospital, with the remaining 30 admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Currently, 94 patients are undergoing treatment for measles across both facilities, while 42 individuals were discharged over the past 24 hours.
Cumulative figures indicate that suspected measles cases in the district reached 6,308 between 1 January and 30 September. A breakdown across individual upazilas reveals 28 cases in Boalmari, 12 in Bhanga, 17 in Charbhadrasan, two in Nagarkanda, six in Madhukhali, 14 in Sadarpur, 23 in Saltha, and five in Faridpur Sadar.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan confirmed that healthcare personnel remain on high alert as daily admissions for both vector-borne and communicable viral infections continue. He assured the public that government hospitals are fully equipped and prepared to deliver appropriate medical care to all admitted patients.
