Fatal Collision Between Truck and Pickup Van in Sirajganj

A devastating head-on collision between a rod-laden heavy truck and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Pabna highway has claimed two lives and left another person injured.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, at approximately 4:30 AM, near Patdhari village within the Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.

The victims have been identified as thirty-year-old Saddam Hossain, a pickup passenger and trader who was the son of Sadek Ali from Goalbathan village in Natore’s Singra upazila, and thirty-five-year-old Rezowan Hossain from the Bogura Sadar area.

According to local witnesses and highway police accounts, the disaster occurred when the two commercial vehicles, travelling from opposite directions, collided head-on along the busy transport corridor. The sheer force of the impact proved fatal for Saddam Hossain, who succumbed to his injuries instantly at the scene. Emergency responders rushed the injured Rezowan Hossain to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital, but medical personnel were unable to save him, and he passed away while undergoing treatment.

In the wake of the crash, grief and anger spilled onto the tarmac. Distraught local residents and bystanders gathered at the site, placing Saddam’s body on the road to initiate a protest block. The blockade completely halted vehicular movement along both flanks of the highway, triggering a tailback stretching approximately two kilometres and paralyzing traffic for nearly two hours.

Officer-in-Charge Md Ismail Hossain of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station stated that police units rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving reports of the crash. Law enforcement officials managed to seize the involved truck. With assistance from Salanga police station personnel, authorities engaged with the protesting locals to negotiate a resolution. The blockade was successfully lifted by around 6:30 AM, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow across the vital regional artery.
