Father–Son Murder Case Filed in Tongi

A murder case has been lodged over the killing of a father and his teenage son in Tongi, Gazipur, after the victims’ family formally accused unidentified individuals of involvement in the incident.

Police confirmed on Monday morning that the complaint was filed by the deceased Sohan’s sister, Shirin Sultana, at Tongi East Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan verified the development.

Case Background

The double homicide occurred early on Sunday in the Bonmala area of Tongi, where the bodies of Md. Sohel (48) and his son Sakibur Rahman Shoeb (17) were recovered under highly suspicious circumstances. According to police accounts, one body was found inside a room of their residence, while the other was discovered near the adjacent railway line.

Initially, railway police suspected that Sohel may have been struck by a train, while his son’s body was recovered from the home by local police. However, subsequent forensic observations raised questions due to visible injuries inconsistent with a simple train accident.

Victims and Suspects

The deceased have been identified as:

Name Age Relationship Occupation/Status
Md. Sohel 48 Father Former migrant worker
Sakibur Rahman Shoeb 17 Son College student & shop employee

A third individual, Sohel’s elder son Saifur Rahman Sohan (27), has been detained for questioning. He works at a pharmaceutical factory. Police stated that he is being interrogated and will be formally arrested if evidence of involvement emerges.

Evidence and Investigation

Investigators reported that CCTV footage captured a man identified as Sohan dragging his injured father towards the railway track around 1:07 am. Authorities believe another individual may have been present at the scene, though their identity remains unconfirmed.

A police source suggested that a second suspect, locally known as “Madani Alif” alias Alif Sadman, may be linked to the incident and is currently absconding. However, officials emphasised that his role has not yet been verified.

Forensic Findings

Preliminary observations from the scene revealed disturbing injuries on the victims. Sakibur’s body reportedly showed cut marks on multiple parts, a cloth stuffed in his mouth, and severed tendons on both wrists. Sohel also bore multiple injuries, adding to suspicions of foul play prior to the railway incident.

Both bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Police Statement and Local Reaction

Speaking at a press briefing, Additional Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (Crime and Operations) Md. Belayet Hossain stated that Sohel was initially believed to have been killed after being struck by the Panchagarh Express train departing Dhaka. He added that investigators were working to determine how the son’s body ended up inside the residence.

Tongi GRP Inspector Nure Alam said conclusions would be drawn after the autopsy reports are completed.

Neighbour Abdul Barek described the family as peaceful, stating he had never observed any disputes among them. He added that Sohel had borrowed a small amount of money from him the day before the incident, expressing shock over the tragedy.

Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and the exact motive behind the killings remains under scrutiny.
