Four Arrested in E-Bike Murder Case

Police in Barishal have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of e-bike driver Nazmul Molla. The arrests were made on Wednesday morning from the Haringaphulia area under Ward No. 26 of the city.

Following the arrests, a section of local residents set fire to the residential house of the accused. The building was subsequently gutted in the blaze before police could reach the scene.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Saiful Islam, son of Rustam Ali from Chandipur area of the city; Miraz Hossain, son of Yunus Hawlader from Haringaphulia area; his wife Kamrun Nahar; and his mother Farida Begum.

Nazmul Molla, aged 22, was a resident of Haringaphulia–Jagua area in Ward No. 26 and the son of Abdus Rashid Molla. His body was recovered by police on Monday afternoon from the Tematha area of the Kalijira River.

Following the recovery of the body, Abdus Rashid Molla filed a murder case at the Airport Police Station. Acting on the case, law enforcement conducted the operation that led to the arrest of the four suspects on Wednesday morning. One other accused, identified as Imran, remains at large.

Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Al Mamunul Islam stated that police received information regarding the arson attack on the accused’s residence and subsequently went to the location. However, due to distance and timing, the house was completely burnt before officers arrived.

He also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the arson incident, and that legal action will be taken following investigation.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said that the four arrested suspects are currently being interrogated. He added that operations are underway to arrest the remaining fugitive accused.

Local residents reported that the murder incident had created tension and anger in the area. After news of the arrests spread, the house of the accused was set on fire by a group of people, resulting in its destruction.

The case remains under active investigation, with police continuing their efforts to complete the arrests and determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing of Nazmul Molla.
