Worker Killed After Waste Dispute

A 25-year-old hotel employee was fatally assaulted following a dispute over waste disposal in Rangpur city, Bangladesh, in an incident that has led to the arrest of a local hotel owner’s son.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on Tuesday at a hotel located in the Khamarpara Mor area along College Road in Rangpur Metropolitan City. The victim, Md. Shaon, originally from the Aditmari area of Lalmonirhat district, was employed at the establishment owned by Amir Hossain, aged 55.

According to eyewitness accounts, a disagreement broke out between Shaon and Monu Mia, aged 28, the son of the hotel owner, over the issue of cleaning and disposing of hotel waste. The verbal altercation escalated rapidly, prompting Shaon to attempt to leave the scene. At that point, Monu Mia allegedly attacked him in public using a sharp object, causing severe injuries.

Bystanders rushed to intervene and subsequently transported the injured man to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. However, attending medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.

Following the incident, Monu Mia attempted to flee the area but was apprehended by a patrol team from the Detective Branch of Rangpur Metropolitan Police with assistance from local residents. He was later taken into custody and interrogated at the Detective Branch office, where he reportedly confessed to his involvement in the assault and provided a detailed account of the events.

Police officials confirmed that legal proceedings are underway. Deputy Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty stated that the accused had been questioned and admitted responsibility for the killing. Authorities further noted that the victim’s family is expected to file a murder case at Kotwali Police Station, after which formal judicial proceedings will proceed.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Kadir also confirmed the arrest, adding that further legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is lodged by the victim’s family.

The incident has drawn attention to workplace disputes escalating into violent confrontations, particularly in informal employment settings where conflict resolution mechanisms are limited.
