Police in Madhupur, Tangail, seized over 4,000 Yaba tablets during a raid on the residence of a local businessman on Friday evening, 11 September. The operation took place in the Tekipara area under Madhupur municipality, though the primary suspect, Hafiz Uddin, managed to abscond when local residents confronted him prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Hafiz, son of the late Shukkur Ali from Boali village, had been residing in Tekipara on land inherited through his late father-in-law, a former municipal councillor named Sakhawat Hossain. For some time, local residents had harboured suspicions regarding Hafiz’s covert activities and suspicious movements in the neighbourhood.
Events unfolded on Friday afternoon when several neighbours received information that a substantial consignment of narcotics was stored inside Hafiz’s house. Confronted by locals demanding answers about the illicit drugs, Hafiz quickly realised the severity of the situation and fled the premises. Residents immediately alerted the Madhupur Police Station.
A police team arrived promptly at the scene and conducted a thorough search of the residence. Officers discovered a large stash of Yaba tablets hidden inside one of the rooms. The seized narcotics were subsequently counted in the presence of local citizens and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Madhupur Circle) Ariful Islam, revealing a total quantity slightly exceeding 4,000 pills.
Confirming the incident, ASP Ariful Islam stated that a formal case under the Narcotics Control Act is being prepared against the homeowner and any associated accomplices. Law enforcement agencies have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the absconding suspect, whilst investigations continue to identify the broader distribution network behind the consignment.
