Fourteen Arrested Following Fresh Violence at New Guinea Properties

Police arrested 14 individuals, including four women, following a fresh wave of violence, vandalism, and clashes inside the New Guinea Properties housing project in the ECB Chottor area under Dhaka’s Cantonment Police Station on Saturday afternoon. According to law enforcement agencies and local sources, the violent altercation erupted at around 4:10 pm on 7 November over a financial dispute related to land trading.

Confirming the development in a press release, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md Aktar Hossain, stated that an armed mob of 100 to 150 people carrying local weapons forcefully entered the premises. The group initiated widespread vandalism and physical violence. Upon receiving emergency reports, police forces swiftly intervened at the scene to restore order and apprehended 14 suspects on the spot.

Officers reported that three of the detained individuals sustained severe injuries during the clash. Rescuers initially transported them to Kurmitola General Hospital for primary care before transferring them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

This latest incident follows an earlier attack on 26 September, when armed miscreants vandalised and looted the same real estate project. During that night-time raid, the studio of prominent content creator Salman Muqtadir was extensively damaged and ransacked. The incident sparked widespread discussion on social media after Muqtadir published video footage showcasing his destroyed furniture and equipment. Detective Branch (DB) officers of the DMP identified one Md Yubraj as a key coordinator of that attack. Investigators allege Yubraj operates under Md Ibrahim, alias ‘Killer’ Ibrahim, the convenor of Bhasantek Thana BNP, who assembled gang members from two local criminal outfits in Mirpur.

Details from the ongoing investigation reveal that 13 individuals met at an eatery near ECB Chottor to plan the 26 September attack. During that meeting, the primary accused, Shahriar Mahmud, struck a 10-million-taka contract with Md Ibrahim to execute the assault. Ibrahim subsequently gathered armed men and entrusted Yubraj with field coordination. Police have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the September raid, eight of whom are currently out on bail. Investigators have identified nine additional suspects and are conducting raids to apprehend them.
