The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally inducted three stalwarts of the modern game into its prestigious Hall of Fame. Former Indian men’s captain Sourav Ganguly, former Indian women’s captain Anjum Chopra, and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen were honoured at a special ceremony held in Edinburgh, Scotland. The global governing body bestowed this definitive recognition on the trio to honour their exceptional contributions, enduring legacies, and profound impact on the international sport.
The ICC Chairman, Jay Shah, extended his warmest congratulations to the newest inductees during the event. He remarked that this institutional recognition would permanently enshrine their unparalleled achievements in the annals of cricket history. Shah emphasised that future generations of players and fans would look back at their careers with profound respect, ensuring their names remain permanently aligned with the absolute elite of the sport.
Sourav Ganguly, widely regarded as one of India’s most influential captains, described the induction as one of the proudest moments of his life. Under his visionary leadership, India transformed into a fierce competitive unit, particularly on overseas tours. Reflecting on the honour, Ganguly stated that having his name etched alongside the true legends of cricket was an incredibly unique and humbling feeling.
Kevin Pietersen, an exceedingly flamboyant and destructive batsman for England, expressed similar sentiments, calling the ICC honour an immense privilege. Pietersen’s career was characterised by breathtaking strokeplay that redefined modern batting across all formats. He remarked that seeing his name positioned alongside the historical icons of the game left him feeling both deeply honoured and incredibly modest.
Anjum Chopra, a pioneering figure in Indian women’s cricket, expressed her deep gratitude to the ICC for acknowledging her historic career as an elegant opening batter and leader. She noted that this elite recognition did not belong to her alone. Chopra gracefully dedicated the honour to her mentors, teammates, coaches, and family members, stating that everyone who had supported her long cricketing journey shared a piece of this global accolade.
