GM Kader Welcomes Hasina’s Return Amid Mounting Government Criticism

The political landscape in Bangladesh faces renewed turbulence as Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Kader launched a scathing critique against the ruling administration, whilst simultaneously welcoming the announced return of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Speaking in Rangpur, the veteran politician asserted that the interim government is rapidly losing its political footing, pointing towards critical failures in disaster management and a deteriorating diplomatic standing.

The remarks were made during a memorial meeting and prayer congregation held at the Darshana area of Rangpur city, marking the death anniversary of the former President and Jatiya Party founder, Hussain Muhammad Ershad. Party leaders and activists gathered to pay their respects, laying floral wreaths at Ershad’s grave before participating in the memorial event.

Scathing Critique of Flood Relief Efforts

Addressing the gathering, GM Kader expressed profound concern over the escalating flood crisis gripping various districts across the country. He highlighted the immense suffering of displaced families, noting that millions are currently marooned without adequate food, clean water, or shelter. The Jatiya Party chief condemned what he termed a visible absence of effective government intervention to alleviate the plight of the flood victims.

In a direct appeal, the JaPa Chairman urged the head of the administration to personally visit the inundated regions rather than relying solely on ministerial delegations. He criticised politicians from both the treasury and opposition benches, accusing them of engaging in superficial photo opportunities in the affected zones rather than delivering substantial relief. According to Kader, the lack of coordination and tangible support has left vulnerable communities entirely to their own devices during one of the worst environmental challenges the region has faced in recent times.

Diplomatic Isolation and the July Movement

Turning his attention to macro-political affairs, the Jatiya Party Chairman offered a distinct interpretation of the political upheavals that transpired in July. Refusing to categorise the events as a successful mass uprising, Kader described the unrest as an ongoing mass movement that has achieved neither complete success nor total failure. He warned that the underlying public grievances remain unaddressed, predicting that the movement will inevitably transform into a full-scale revolution in the near future.

Furthermore, Kader cast doubt on the government’s capacity to execute major infrastructural projects, specifically highlighting the Teesta Mega Plan. He argued that international confidence in the current administration has eroded significantly.

“The ground beneath this government’s feet is shifting rapidly. Key global players, including China, India, and the United States, no longer repose their trust in the current leadership,” Kader claimed.

Welcoming Sheikh Hasina’s Return

In a significant political development, the Jatiya Party chief openly welcomed the announcement that Sheikh Hasina intends to return to Bangladesh in December. He emphasized that her return is crucial for stabilizing the country’s volatile political climate. Acknowledging the historical contributions of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and her family to the nation, Kader argued that her presence is vital to rescue the Awami League from its current existential crisis. He warned that her continued absence would only plunge the nation into deeper political uncertainty and institutional instability.

Echoing these sentiments, Jatiya Party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary addressed the gathering, criticising the current composition of the National Parliament. Patwary alleged that the legislature has effectively transformed into a single-party entity where different factions merely simulate opposition. He accused these groups of engaging in performative debates that fail to address the genuine welfare of the citizens.

The memorial event concluded with special prayers for the departed soul of Hussain Muhammad Ershad. Prominent party figures, including former City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, alongside hundreds of grassroots activists, attended the program, signaling a unified stance as the party positions itself against the prevailing political establishment.
