The government has simultaneously sent sixteen Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of police into compulsory retirement.
The decision was communicated through separate notifications issued by the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the official order, the action was taken on Sunday (3 May) under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. The provision allows the authorities to retire public servants in the interest of the state service, with effect from immediate implementation.
The notifications confirm that the retirement has been granted in line with public interest considerations, and that the concerned officers will be entitled to all retirement benefits as per applicable rules and regulations.
The list of officers placed under compulsory retirement includes senior officials serving in various specialised units and departments of the Bangladesh Police. Their postings covered a wide range of operational and administrative responsibilities, including training institutions, specialised investigation units, highway policing, tourism security, and intelligence-related assignments.
