Housewife Found Dead After Domestic Dispute

A 30-year-old housewife was found dead in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, with police recovering her body from her residence on Monday morning. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while a post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The deceased, identified as Sharmin, was a resident of North Ramshala village under Sonamukhi Union in Akkelpur. She was the wife of local farmer Shamim and the daughter of Anwar Hossain of Mongolpur village in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura district.

According to family members, local residents and police sources, a disagreement reportedly arose between Sharmin and her husband on Sunday night after Shamim returned home later than expected. The argument is said to have centred on his delayed arrival. Following the dispute, the couple retired for the night.

Shamim later told police that he had been playing carrom and returned home late, which upset his wife. He said she became angry and argued with him before he eventually went to sleep. According to his account, he discovered her hanging in a nearby kitchen area when he woke up the following morning.

Hearing his cries for help, neighbours rushed to the scene. Local residents subsequently brought the body down and informed the police. Officers from Akkelpur Police Station arrived shortly afterwards, recovered the body and transported it for further legal procedures.

Incident Overview

Local community representatives said they were unaware of any longstanding or serious marital problems between the couple. Former Union Parishad Chairman Solaiman Ali Sardar stated that, based on information available to him, the incident appeared to have followed a disagreement between husband and wife. He added that there had been no known history of major conflict within the family.

Police officials have stressed that the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation. Akkelpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Reza said officers found no visible signs of external injury on the body during the initial examination. While preliminary observations suggest that Sharmin may have taken her own life following a domestic dispute, he emphasised that the final determination would depend on the findings of the post-mortem report.

The body has been sent to the morgue for forensic examination, and legal proceedings are continuing. Investigators are expected to review witness statements and other relevant evidence before reaching a formal conclusion regarding the circumstances of the death.

The incident has drawn attention within the local community, highlighting the potentially serious consequences of domestic disagreements and the importance of thorough investigations whenever an unnatural death occurs. Police have indicated that all aspects of the case will be examined before any final assessment is made.
