Husband Arrested After Killing Sleeping Wife in Narail

A woman has been killed in the early hours of Tuesday in Narail Sadar Upazila after being attacked with a traditional cutting tool while she was asleep at a relative’s home. Police have arrested her husband in connection with the incident, and he has reportedly confessed during initial questioning.

The deceased has been identified as Chandni Akhter Khadija (22). Her husband, Sakib Sheikh (25), is the son of Jihad Sheikh from the Damodar area under Phultala Upazila in Khulna.

According to police statements, the couple had travelled on Monday from Phultala in Khulna to the Bahirgram area of Narail Sadar Upazila to visit the home of a maternal aunt. The family was staying together when the incident occurred.

The attack reportedly took place around 1:30 am on Tuesday night. While the victim was asleep, her husband allegedly struck her with a boti (a heavy cutting instrument commonly used in South Asian households). Following the assault, family members rushed the critically injured woman to Narail District Hospital, where attending doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Initially, members of the husband’s family informed hospital authorities that the woman had accidentally fallen onto the blade of a boti, resulting in severe injuries and subsequent death from excessive blood loss. However, police later stated that inconsistencies in the account raised suspicion.

Investigators from Narail Sadar Police Station visited the scene, collected evidence, and questioned the husband. Officers reported that his statements were inconsistent during preliminary interrogation. He was subsequently taken into custody, where he allegedly admitted to the killing.

Police have indicated that preliminary findings suggest the suspect may have been involved in domestic disputes with his wife. Officers noted allegations of substance abuse and unemployment-related tensions within the marriage, though these remain part of initial investigative observations rather than conclusive findings.

The body of the deceased has been sent to Narail District Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and further investigation is continuing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
