Mohammad Raihan, a man known in Chattogram for his involvement in several murder cases and often described as a notorious gangster, has once again sparked alarm — this time by allegedly issuing death threats to a local pharmaceutical businessman over the phone.
The incident reportedly took place in the Kalurghat area, where the businessman, Md Riduan, was threatened with death in a call that lasted nearly six minutes. During the call, Raihan identified himself as the second accused in the high-profile Dhakaiya Akbar murder case and issued terrifying threats such as:
“I’ll blow your skull off… You’ll end up just like Akbar, lying on the sea beach.”
Gang Affiliations and Background
Raihan is known to be a close associate of “Chhoto Sajjad,” a jailed criminal, and a follower of the fugitive “Boro Sajjad Ali.” Both are believed to operate a powerful criminal syndicate responsible for a series of heinous acts including murder and extortion in various parts of Chattogram.
| Figures | Details |
| Boro Sajjad Ali | Once sentenced to death in the infamous 2000 case of 8 Chhatra League activists’ murder; later acquitted by the High Court; currently absconding abroad. |
| Chhoto Sajjad | Operates locally under Boro Sajjad’s directive; met Raihan in jail. |
| Mohammad Raihan | Became active post-bail; allegedly maintains arms for the group. |
List of Alleged Crimes Against Raihan
Since 5 August 2024, Raihan has been named in at least 13 criminal cases, six of which are murder cases. The table below outlines major allegations against him:
| Date | Incident | Location |
| 23 May | Main accused in the murder of Dhakaiya Akbar via shooting | Chattogram |
| 30 March | Double homicide | Bakalia |
| 22 April | Murder of Jubo Dal activist Ibrahim | Raozan |
| 29 August | Killing of two friends — Md Masud and Md Anis | West Kuwaish, Oxygen-Hathazari area |
| 21 September | Murder of construction material trader Tahseen | Chandgaon |
The Threat Call and Police Response
The recent threat stemmed from a minor dispute, which Raihan escalated dramatically. In the recorded conversation, Raihan repeatedly abused the businessman and referred to his past crimes as a means of intimidation. He also demanded retribution for an alleged assault on one of his associates.
Despite the businessman choosing not to file a formal complaint, the police confirmed awareness of the incident. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aftab Uddin of Chandgaon Police Station stated:
“Raihan and his associates are linked to multiple criminal acts, including the recent shooting in the Mohora area. We are actively pursuing his arrest.”
Arms Custodian and Organised Return
Police further stated that Raihan met Chhoto Sajjad while in custody during a murder case last year. Following his release on bail, he began operating with increased activity. Although Sajjad is currently imprisoned, Raihan reportedly maintains his weapons stockpile and continues to lead operations.
