A seminal romantic duet by popular Bangladeshi vocalists Imran Mahmudul and Sabrina Porshi has achieved a rare milestone in the country’s digital music landscape. Released nearly a decade ago in 2017, the hit track Janam Janam officially crossed 100 million views on YouTube on Friday, cementing its status as an enduring classic that successfully bridged the transition from traditional media to streaming platforms.
The milestone is particularly significant given the timing of the song’s original release. Back in early 2017, Bangladeshi music consumers relied far more heavily on television broadcasts, physical media, and local audio streaming than on YouTube. Despite being launched before the explosion of high-speed mobile internet and ubiquitous video streaming across the country, the track maintained steady, multi-year traction among audiences, accumulating tens of millions of views over time.
Reflecting on the achievement in a social media post on Friday afternoon, Imran expressed deep gratitude for the song’s longevity. He highlighted that Janam Janam marked the very first duet of his career alongside Porshi, a partnership that would later produce numerous hits across the Bangladeshi music industry. Imran noted how gratifying it was to see a song from an earlier era continue to resonate with contemporary listeners who stream content on modern digital platforms.
The track featured penned lyrics by prominent lyricist Robiul Islam Jibon, with Imran handling the musical composition and arrangement. Originally produced as a centerpiece for Porshi’s third solo album, the official music video was directed by Romy Khan and uploaded to the G-Series YouTube channel on 7 February 2017.
The announcement triggered a wave of nostalgia across social media, with fans sharing memories of listening to the track on legacy feature phones nearly a decade ago while continuing to stream it today. Robiul Islam Jibon joined listeners in celebrating the milestone, praising the creative synergy that allowed a single track to maintain its cultural relevance for almost ten years in a rapidly shifting digital market.
