Jasad Commemorates National Mourning Day and Condemns Political Regimes

The central committee of the Jasaid party—the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal—held a solemn discussion and memorial meeting on Saturday afternoon to mark the National Mourning Day, commemorating the tragic assassination of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on 15 August 1975.

The event commenced at 5:30 PM on 15 August 2026 at the Shaheed Colonel Taher Auditorium within the party’s central headquarters located at 35–36 Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. Party leaders paid tribute by placing floral wreaths before the portrait of Bangabandhu, followed by a one-minute silence observed in honour of all those martyred during the 1975 tragedy.

The discussion session was chaired by Jasad Central Committee Vice-President and veteran freedom fighter Shafiuadin Molla. A series of prominent leaders addressed the gathering, including central committee member and freedom fighter Saifuzzaman Badsha, Joint General Secretary Abdullahel Kaief, central committee member Sardar Humayun Kabir, National Youth Alliance President Shariful Kabir Swapan, Office Secretary Sazzad Hossain, Cultural Secretary Shaheed Alamgir, Assistant Secretary Ali Hasan Tarun, former Dhaka City East Joint General Secretary Wahiduzzaman Khan Ripon, alongside Chhatra League (Scientific Socialism) Central Committee Vice-President Golam Kibria and Organisational Secretary Hasan Aziz Joni.

Addressing the audience, speakers characterized the 15 August 1975 assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members as one of the darkest and most painful chapters in both national and global political history. They drew explicit parallels between the 1975 tragedy and the political regime change that occurred on 5 August 2024, asserting that both events were orchestrated by the same forces hostile to the liberation and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

According to the speakers, the anti-liberation forces that executed the 1975 plot were responsible for a meticulously designed operation in mid-2024 under the guise of the quota reform movement. They pointed to the demolition of the historic Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32, as well as the widespread destruction of Bangabandhu murals and sculptures across the country on 5 August 2024, as clear evidence of a continuous historical vendetta aimed at undoing the legacy of the 1971 Liberation War.

The leadership also highlighted perceived ongoing political victimization. Speakers noted that the sentencing of Jasad President Hasanul Haq Inu under the military tribunal of Ziaur Rahman mirrors his recent 30-year prison sentence delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal following the post-5 August regime shift.

The meeting concluded with a call to action. Jasad leaders declared that the principal national duty of all rational, patriotic, and truth-seeking forces across Bangladesh is to liberate the nation from religious extremism, militant ideology, and political deception.
