The Insurance Reporters Forum (IRF), a professional platform for journalists covering Bangladesh’s insurance industry, has elected its new executive committee for the 2026–2027 term following its Annual General Meeting and election held this week.
The election was conducted on Tuesday, 28 April, at the auditorium of the Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF). Members of the forum participated in a structured voting process to determine office bearers for the next two years, reflecting the organisation’s continued adherence to internal democratic practices.
In the presidential race, Golam Mawla of Bangla Tribune was elected President with 33 votes. He defeated Md Rahim Sheikh of Rupali Bangladesh, who secured 14 votes. The outcome established a decisive margin in favour of Mawla, who will now lead the forum’s strategic and institutional activities.
Gias Uddin of Banijjo Protidin was elected General Secretary after obtaining 28 votes, surpassing Ibrahim Ali of Kalbela, who received 18 votes. The General Secretary position is central to the forum’s operational coordination, including programme execution and member engagement.
Several positions were filled without contest. Abdur Rahman Abir of Insurance News BD was elected Treasurer unopposed. Masud Mia of Amader Orthoneeti assumed the Vice President role without opposition, while Nazmul Islam Faruk of RisingBD was elected Joint Secretary unchallenged. These uncontested outcomes indicate broad internal agreement on key supporting roles.
In the executive member category, Shah Alam Noor of Dainik Naya Diganta secured 32 votes, while Azibul Haque Partho of RTNN received 29 votes, both earning seats on the committee.
The election was overseen by a three-member Election Commission responsible for ensuring fairness and procedural compliance. The commission was chaired by Ashraful Islam, City Editor of Dainik Naya Diganta and a founding member of IRF. The other members included Golam Samdani Bhuiyan, founding President of the forum, and Monir Hossain, President of CMJF. They supervised the voting process to ensure transparency and credibility.
The newly elected committee will serve from 2026 to 2027. Its primary focus is expected to include strengthening professional standards in insurance journalism, enhancing training opportunities for reporters, and fostering stronger collaboration between the media and stakeholders in Bangladesh’s insurance sector.
