Normal business operations within the insurance sector of Bangladesh officially resumed on Monday, 1 June 2026, following a consecutive seven-day holiday observed for Eid-ul-Azha. State-owned and private insurance firms experienced a return to regular operational capacity, with employees returning to their offices nationwide.
Corporate and administrative teams focused on clearing backlogged files and accelerating the resolution of pending insurance claims to restore standard service efficiency. The sector-wide closure commenced on 25 May and concluded on 31 May 2026.
As per the gazette notification published by the Ministry of Public Administration, the extended holiday framework encompassed the insurance industry alongside all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions.
An initial six-day holiday period had been structured around the scheduled date of Eid-ul-Azha on 28 May 2026. The original plan set a general holiday on Eid day (28 May), with executive-ordered holidays preceding it on 26 and 27 May, and succeeding it from 29 May to 31 May.
However, the newly formed government decided to extend the holiday period by one day to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate safer long-distance travel for citizens. Consequently, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a supplementary notification declaring Monday, 25 May 2026, as an additional holiday.
| Date (2026) | Day | Status of Holiday | Administrative Authority |
| 25 May | Monday | Additional Holiday | New Government Executive Directive |
| 26 May | Tuesday | Executive Holiday | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
| 27 May | Wednesday | Executive Holiday | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
| 28 May | Thursday | General Holiday (Eid Day) | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
| 29 May | Friday | Executive Holiday | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
| 30 May | Saturday | Executive Holiday | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
| 31 May | Sunday | Executive Holiday | Original Ministry Gazetted List |
The administrative adjustments prolonged the festive closure to seven consecutive days. Despite the length of this institutional recess, the government issued an explicit directive mandate ensuring that all national emergency and essential services remained fully operational throughout the period.
Following the conclusion of this holiday timeline, insurance offices and broader financial institutions have fully restored standard operating routines to process consumer transactions and corporate requirements.
