The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is presently operating under the temporary stewardship of an 11-member ad-hoc committee led by president Tamim Iqbal. This interim governance phase is scheduled to conclude on 7 June, when formal board elections will take place to transition executive authority to a newly elected contingent of board directors.
Appearing on the BCB’s official Char-Chokka podcast, ad-hoc committee member and finance committee chairman Israfil Khosru highlighted the absolute necessity of establishing long-term policy consistency and structural stability. Khosru defined the core function of the governing body as a straightforward service model: ensuring the delivery of proper training facilities, maintaining robust physical infrastructure, and offering complete administrative support to athletes.
He maintained that if these foundational guidelines are systematically enforced, the BCB will function as an institution belonging directly to the general public rather than an organization controlled by any particular interest group. Khosru added that the sport of cricket is inherently embedded within the national identity of the Bangladeshi populace.
Khosru openly stated that despite the country’s extensive cricketing history, domestic training infrastructures have not been developed to a modern standard. He noted that the board must acknowledge these structural shortcomings to build a sustainable sporting system.
Khosru drew attention to the prolonged suspension of regional cricket leagues in various parts of the country. He argued that a reliable national talent pipeline cannot exist without regular competitive fixtures at the divisional level. Because tournament frequency and ground availability are entirely interdependent, the BCB must prioritize the modernization of fields to facilitate widespread play.
Addressing historical financial mismanagement, Khosru revealed that the ad-hoc committee encountered substantial unpaid arrears related to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) upon taking office. The interim board implemented direct administrative actions to clear these outstanding debts, ensuring that players received their full financial remuneration.
Khosru emphasized that the advancement of Bangladesh cricket is impossible if the rights and welfare of its players are neglected. He observed that visible institutional backing from the board significantly raises athlete motivation. By removing external financial anxieties, the board enables players to focus entirely on on-field performance, thereby shifting the BCB’s role toward solving player grievances proactively.
