Jasprit Bumrah Doubtful for Sri Lanka Tour as Ravindra Jadeja Returns

India’s cricket management faces a fresh fitness dilemma regarding star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ahead of their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka in August. With national selectors expected to announce the squad next week, medical staff are closely monitoring Bumrah’s recovery from a knee injury. In contrast, experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja looks set to make his long-awaited return to the Test side.

News agency PTI, citing sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), reported that medical personnel are continuously evaluating Bumrah’s rehabilitation. The pace spearhead sustained a left knee injury during the final Test of India’s recent series against England and is currently undergoing recovery work. With approximately three weeks remaining before the opening Test match, team officials believe there is still sufficient time to make a definitive judgment regarding his availability. Selectors are prepared to delay their final decision until the last possible moment to give him every chance of reaching full fitness.

Whilst Bumrah’s participation remains uncertain, Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion appears all but confirmed. The veteran all-rounder has been absent from the national setup since featuring in a One Day International against New Zealand in January. His return provides a timely boost for India, particularly given the spin-friendly conditions typical of Sri Lankan pitches, where his bowling accuracy and lower-order batting could prove invaluable.

The Indian squad is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka by 4 August to begin acclimatisation. To prepare for the subcontinental conditions, the touring side will play a four-day warm-up fixture at the Nondescripts Cricket Club in Colombo prior to the Test series. It remains undecided whether Bumrah will travel with the main squad on 4 August or join up at a later date depending on his fitness progress.
