Emerging from Nashville, Jenna Kay has returned with her highly anticipated second alt-pop EP, Smartsass, marking her first major creative release since 2025’s if i can’t. The new EP asserts Kay’s distinctive artistic voice, blending audacious energy with emotional depth, leaving listeners both captivated and moved.
Smartsass showcases Kay’s signature fusion of rock-infused backbeats with infectious pop choruses, establishing her firmly as a dynamic alt-pop force. Her songwriting is characterised by “sticky earworms” and an indie-tinged sonic palette, rendering each track cinematic and emotionally resonant.
Spanning six tracks, the EP navigates themes of fractured relationships, stark truths, and the complexity of imperfect emotions. From punchy, rock-tinged pop anthems to stripped-back, heartfelt ballads, Smartsass demonstrates both the breadth of Kay’s musicality and the uniqueness of her style, suggesting that 2026 is poised to be her breakout year.
Reflecting on the EP, Kay said:
“Smartsass is the album form of my attitude. It’s a chance to project my voice with full confidence, expressing elements I’ve often kept quiet. It’s confident, sardonic, heartfelt, and unflinchingly honest. These songs are about growing up, standing your ground, and realising you don’t have to shrink yourself to be liked.”
Her fearless emotionality, dynamic musical range, and unapologetic energy have positioned Jenna Kay as one of alt-pop’s most compelling emerging talents.
